The FEFCO catalogue is a collection of basic designs for cardboard packaging. The purpose of the FEFCO catalogue is to replace complex descriptions of packaging and cardboard constructions with simple symbols (FEFCO codes), which are considered a European standard and are understandable in every corner of the world.

The FEFCO catalogue of cardboard packaging was invented and developed in the 1960s to make it easier for all those who use or will use cardboard packaging and cardboard.
The basic values that describe the dimensions of cardboard packaging are: length, width, and height.
The dimensions of cardboard packaging are usually given in millimeters, and their basic dimension is the internal dimension.
However, in the case when the external dimension is given, it is usually specified in its name.
The FEFCO catalogue operates thanks to specially developed codes.
These codes are a combination of 4 digits that are not randomly assigned to a specific design.
The first two digits of the cardboard packaging code correspond to its type, and the next two digits highlight distinguishing elements such as different types of joints and additional wings.
The FEFCO catalogue is a great simplification for consumers, as it allows them to choose the appropriate design for their cardboard packaging or cardboard.
Below are some examples of FEFCO catalogue codes and descriptions of what they represent:
• 0100 – intended for rolls and sheets
• 0200 – flap boxes
• 0300 – packaging consisting of more than one part, also known as telescope boxes
• 0400 – folding boxes and trays
• 0500 – slide boxes
• 0600 – boxes permanently joined, created from two separate parts and a body
• 0700 – one-piece glued boxes
• 0900 – inserts, dividers, grids, fillers, and the like
